Gabby’s court win makes Northeast-based Girl Friday smile. She trots out several of the standard excuses for the harm resulting from Gabby’s operations:
Apparently, Alexis (GF’s real name) is not a Gabby’s regular. The problems arise only two nights a week, and began only recently. Apparently blinded by her own racism, she does not distinguish between these patrons and their conduct. Does being “predominantly black” require being predominantly rude? Alexis is seemingly is unfamiliar with the case and the nature of the complaints. These residents are subjected to much more than “bar-close noise”. This isn’t 2am at Jimmy’s. It’s an 800-person dance party pushed into a neighborhood. Alexis is also apparently unfamiliar with the legendary tenure of Northeast residents. Most have lived around here for decades, many for their entire lives. They remember when Gabby’s was not a blighting influence. |

Thanks for the comments. I
Thanks for the comments. I live on Marshall St and have since the mid 90s. Now that Gabby's is closed - guess what? That first Thursday and Saturday they were closed- and every one since - I have not been awoken by cars parked in fron of my house at 3 am - doors open - stereos as loud as possible, big girls in high heels stopping traffic, horns blasting, fights breaking out, broken bottles, condoms, etc. until police tell them to go home w/ loud speakers. It all stopped the day it closed. Imagine that! They weren't coming from Jaros, Dagos, Elsies, Kellers, 22, etc. Oh - and addressing the first comment - when I first moved in (and did go to Gabbys when there was a mix of all musics and people and not strictly hip-hop night w/ free drinks) I never had the problems mentioned above either.
