Burglary Wave Hits Bottineau, Sheridan & Logan

From CPS Osterhuis:

The Second Precinct had 19 burglary of dwellings during the week of 5/5/09 to 5/11/09. 12 of these were in the neighborhoods of Bottineau, Sheridan, and Logan Park. 4 of these were apartments, 5 were garages, 1 was a house, 1 was a duplex, and 1 was a park building. The second precinct encourages neighbors to:

  • Install good locks and lock them. Lock the door if you are at home and if you are gone even for a few minutes.
  • Make you home look (and sound) occupied. If you leave for the evening, leave on a light and a radio.
  • Turn on exterior lights at night.
  • Don't open your door to anyone without business inside.
  • Have your children tell strangers that "Mommy (or Daddy) is busy" rather than "Mommy (or Daddy) is not home."
  • Never leave garage doors open.
  • Meet your neighbors, so you can watch out for each other.
  • Ask your SAFE team to conduct a free Home Security Survey. We will give you more tips and ideas for making your home secure.
  • Call 911 to report suspicious activity. This includes strangers walking down your alley and looking in garages, loitering, or vehicles circling the block with occupants you don't recognize. 911 does have translation available.

This is a good time to get your block organized and encourage neighbors to watch out for one another. Neighbors who know each other and report suspicious and illegal activity is one of the best defenses against crime.

The Second Precinct will be holding a block club training on May 27th, if your block is not organized, consider attending to learn how you can get to know your neighbors to build a stronger and safer community.
