Are Nordeasters Special?

From an email response to this post currently being circulated by 2PAC:

As I a Native Nordeaster who takes great pride in our neighborhood, and who is also a NECP member. I have to agree with you and resign also. I believe in the purpose and mission of this organization. But due to the comments made by the Leadership of the NECP, regarding the recent death of another Native Nordeaster. I have lost all respect for the NECP.

It seems that some Nordeasters believe *their kind* deserve special treatment. That's exactly the kind of prejudice I attempted to call into question. All victims are equal. Where a person grew up should not influence our level of sympathy. But it does. Where a person lives should not influence our desire to hold them accountable for their crimes. But it does.

I would not respect an organization which selectively ignored its mission to track criminals. Sometimes the bad guy looks familiar and the truth is painful. Let's have a discussion about our feelings and our prejudices. I'm not saying I can see what is in each of our hearts, I'm just saying…

My original post has been copied into several emails. The Eastside Defender website, at the time, was not approved for full public disclosure. I stand behind my comment and my opinion. I regret that it was distributed before this public discussion forum had been properly set up and promoted. These are things we all would benefit from talking through. Without an active and effective forum, all we have are selective and secretive email notes passed among gossip circles.

If you have an opinion, I invite you to post it here. The Eastside deserves to hear you.

Get "feelings or opinions"

Get "feelings or opinions" out with cup of coffee and some friends. Chances are you won't upset people and its not on what is suppose to be a business site. Watching ours jokes is not trapping prejudices, but saying them is only adding fuel to the fire. We need to not censor what we say but be sensitive to those around who may take offense, the whole meaning of politically correct. WE are suppose to be grown adults, business folks, and yet this all seems like little kids on the playground. And yes we should be sticking up for "nordeasters" we aren't the Minneapolis citizens patrol, we are the northeast citizens patrol; the eastside defenders or what have you. So no one's life isn't better then another based on where they live; but this too is a concept lost on the NECP. This is my opinion based on the comment made by the "opinion" of a BOARD member of the NECP that reflects the entire group that never mind he was MURDERED in OUR NEIGHBORHOOD he made bad choices in the past and we don't care.

I've owned my words, posted

I've owned my words, posted with my name and labeled as Opinion. I know that everyone *could* read them--they're on the internet. If the site was fully live, I might have spent some extra time making my point clearer. I would have still said the same stuff, and probably offended the same people. Potentially, I might have been more direct and plainly stated the thoughts I alluded to.

That we have to *watch* our jokes or comments is related to my point. Self-censorship will keep us all trapped in our prejudices and hatreds. One can be honest without being rude. We do not always feel the way we're supposed to. Does that make us bad people? Is it better to deny those feelings, or to get them out and get over them?

"The Eastside deserves to

"The Eastside deserves to hear you"

Who hears on a site not deemed public, yet everyone can read? Thats public in my book, maybe you should watch what "jokes" or other such "comments" are made on a non-public/fully public site!
